What People Say About Noosa Chorale

‘Beyond doubt the Chorale has discovered the gift of transcending by several magnitudes its place as a community choir, at times rendering a wild, stirring, yet disciplined shout of a timbre found only in the best Russian and Welsh choirs, in a performance that yet lacked nothing in the way of subtlety and delicacy.’

(Dick Tombs Review of Verdi Requiem 2006)

‘English conductor, Adrian King, now resident on the Sunshine Coast, has taken choral singing to new dimensions here since his arrival a couple of years ago. This resulted in a stunning and compelling performance from start to finish and a standing ovation which lasted several minutes.’

(Marguerite Webber Review of Carmina Burana 2008)

This thrilling performance of Mendelssohn’s oratorio was, in my opinion, the stand-out musical event of the year.  Conductor, Adrian King, has brought with him from the UK a wealth of experience and skills in conducting major works. His rapport with choir, orchestra and soloists never wavered as every member remained totally focused throughout.

(Marguerite Webber Review of Elijah 2007)

The Christmas Cheer concerts have been a sell-out for the past 3 years and they are quickly becoming one of the region’s most loved festive events.

Who We Are and What we do

Noosa Chorale was founded in 1994 by our patron, Joseph McMahon, who invited Leonard Spira to direct the fledgling 20 member choir.  Since then, the Chorale has grown to a choir of 70 singers.  The Chorale, under the musical direction of Adrian King since 2007, gives three performances a year.  Two performances feature major classical choral works performed with orchestras. The third performance is a Christmas ‘Wassail’ called ‘Christmas Cheer’, when the Chorale sings Australian and traditional carols in a fun filled and festive cabaret style event.

The Chorale is community choir and enjoys singing at community events such as the lighting of the Xmas Tree at Hastings St and Australia Day celebrations.  It also is willing to sing to help people raise funds such as the Flood Relief Concert in Nambour in 2011.

The Chorale helps to promote choral singing across the Sunshine Coast through its membership of the Sunshine Coast Choral Festival where it joins with other choirs and singing groups to sing in a special annual concert in May.

Our Ethos

The Chorale places importance on maintaining a friendly and enjoyable rehearsal experience while achieving high standards of musical performance.  Everyone with a love of singing and the willingness to attend rehearsals regularly is made welcome at the Chorale. There are no auditions and musical scores and learning materials are made available at a low cost.  Members pay $7 a night to offset operational costs.
