"The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace", May 30 and 31
Noosa Chorale and orchestra, under the baton of conductor Kim Kirkman, present a concert performance filled with hopes for peace in our time.
“The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace” by Karl Jenkins, one of the world’s greatest living composers, reflects on the brutality of war and the joy when peace finally comes. The accompanying images show us both the awful realities of war, and the relief that follows when war is ended, reminding us of the goodwill at the heart of our shared humanity, no matter where in the world, no matter what religion or spiritual belief.
The programme also includes other exquisitely uplifting choral and instrumental pieces: “Miserere mei, Deus” composed in the mid-1600s, Albinoni’s Adagio for strings, Max Bruch’s “Kol Nidrei”, and the heavenly “Agnus Dei” by 20th century composer Samuel Barber.
